AESI’s fully functional applied-use demonstration facility located in Wichita, KS uses a full scale VIGC system to support the fuel performance testing operations of the Biomass Research Institute (BRI). This offers customers a tangible, application of biomass gasification technology and the soundness of the analytic process for evaluating biomass fuels. The BRI enables project by project evaluation.
Analyzing gasified biomass fuels in various quantities, blends and compositions enables our team to optimize fuel performance and determine project viability. Specifically, biomass fuel testing is performed to determine operation metrics related to fuel handling, fuel quality, long term equipment performance, and emissions controls of the sample fuel in our gasifiers. A well designed testing program enables the removal of possible fuel-based obstacles and will serve as the basis of actual emissions profiling.
At the conclusion of our fuel testing process a detailed report on all analyses performed and results of conversion trials conducted including all data recorded will be provided such that a fuel management plan can be developed and performance guarantees can be provided.

As an added benefit, our testing facility is set up to exhibit “dry run” demonstrations with focus on controls and modulation such that customers can “operate” the unit. Demonstrating a commercially available gasifier, complete with standardized components and equipment offers AESI’s customers an applied understanding of “real world” performance. Our goal is to engage each customer and comprehensively answer questions.
Through innovation in fuel handling, blending and energy conversion, a wider range of biomass materials beyond what is typically found today will be regarded as viable fuels. Identifying and “proving” fuel blends will expand the number of qualified biomass opportunities by supporting industry to evaluate their own process waste as a blend with standard staples such as woody biomass. The BRI enables biomass solutions to commercial and industrial customers that otherwise would not have considered biomass energy because of their inability to evaluate their opportunistic waste streams prior to purchase.
